The Mom Pledge

As moms, we all want the best for our families, and as much as possible a safe environment for ourselves, our children and our home. It is reality that the world is a wild jungle. It is maternal instinct for us to be protective of our family and territory.
It  is inevitable that the Internet provides a major role in how the modern mom handles her home. In these times when the cyberspace is the new common ground for moms to meet (and for some to work), a mom should feel secured, unharmed and safe in the comforts of her own little space in the web. It is such a shame , at the same time alarming to find out that some become victims of harassment, prejudice and personal attacks more popularly known as "cyber bullying".  I just recently came across a community of moms determined to come together and speak out to end cyber bullying among moms.

The Mom Pledge
I am a proud to be a mom. I will conduct myself with integrity in all my online activities. I can lead by example.
I pledge to treat my fellow moms with respect. I will acknowledge that there is no one, "right" way to be a good mom. Each woman makes the choices best for her family.
I believe a healthy dialogue on important issues is a good thing. I will welcome differing opinions when offered in a respectful, non-judgmental manner. And will treat those who do so in kind.
I stand up against cyber bullying. My online space reflects who I am and what I believe in. I will not tolerate comments that are defamatory, hateful or threatening.
I refuse to give those who attack a platform. I will remove their remarks with no mention or response. I can take control.
I want to see moms work together to build one another up, not tear each other down. Words can be used as weapons. I will not engage in that behavior.
I affirm that we are a community. As a member, I will strive to foster goodwill among moms. Together, we can make a difference.

I took the pledge, the same reason why I am sharing this to all of you and encouraging you to do the same. As bloggers, this is quite important to us since we regularly encounter different types of people-from different walks of life, races and cultures. Words should not be used as weapons but rather for comfort and encouragement. We should know that no one can ever look down on us or give judgmental comments about us and the work we do. Instead we should all promote a milieu that is supportive of other moms, one that celebrates the greatness of one thing-that is motherhood.

I challenge you to take the challenge-take The Mom Pledge and help spread the word. Let us step forward, speak out and make a change.
